Raisen Fort, located about 45 km from Bhopal in the town of Raisen, is a majestic hilltop fort that has stood as a sentinel over the region for more than a thousand years. Perched on a hill at an altitude of around 1500 feet, this fort is a magnificent symbol of Madhya Pradesh’s historical and architectural legacy. Built in the 6th century, Raisen Fort has witnessed the rise and fall of many dynasties, including the Rajputs, Mughals, and Nawabs, and played a key role in the region’s history.  Raisen Fort also has a rich connection to India’s medieval history, having been a site of multiple battles and sieges. In the 16th century, it was captured by Sher Shah Suri, and later by the Mughals. Its strategic importance made it a center of power for centuries. Another point of interest is the tomb of Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah, a famous Sufi saint, located within the fort complex, which adds a spiritual dimension to this historic site.
