Nagarahole Tiger Reserve” previously known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park is named after the stream ‘Nagarahole’ which literally means serpent stream (Nagara – serpent, hole – stream) in Kannada language. The protected area is located in both the districts of Mysuru and Kodagu with an area of 847.981 sq.km (core – 643.392 sq.km and buffer-204.589 sq.km ). This lush wilderness is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the Bengal tiger, Indian elephant, leopard, gaur, and a variety of deer species. Birdwatchers can also spot over 270 species of birds, making it a paradise for avian lovers.

Visitors can enjoy thrilling jeep safaris and boat rides along the Kabini River, offering a chance to spot wildlife in their natural habitat. The park’s landscape, comprising dense forests, grassy swamps, and rivers, is breathtaking, especially during the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons.
