About
The Bangalore Fort started in the year 1537 as just a mud fort. In the year 1761, Hyder Ali replaced the mud fort with a stone fort and was further improved by his son Tipu Sultan in the late 18th century. The fort is a living reminder of the historical conflict between the Kingdom of Mysore and the mighty British people. In earlier times Tipu Sultan’s Summer Fort was also a part of Bangalore Fort but today it is a separate structure. There is also a temple of Lord Ganesha, which reflects the religious tolerance shown by Tipu Sultan. Today, only ruins are left of what was once Tipu Sultan’s stronghold i.e. Delhi Gate and two primary bastions. The fort complex consists of several structures including the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. Tall as an ancient heritage structure, the monument is one of the most popular attractions of the city.
