About
Durga Mandir in Varanasi is a temple for Goddess Durga. It was built a long time ago by a queen named Rani Bhabani. The temple is near a pond that is connected to a big river. People believe the goddess appeared on her own in this temple.
The story tells us about a king’s daughter, Sashikala, who liked a prince named Sudarshan. They got married secretly. Other kings got angry and wanted to fight. Sudarshan asked Goddess Durga for help. She came on a lion and helped them win.
To say thank you to Goddess Durga, the king built this temple. People still visit it to pray and feel her powerful and protective energy.
