Long ago, there was a place called the Massacre Ghat in a city called Kanpur in India. This place is very important because something sad happened there a long time ago.

A long time ago, there were some Indian soldiers called sepoys. They were not happy with the way things were being ruled by the British people from a company called the British East India Company. These Indian soldiers rebelled, which means they fought against British rule. Kanpur was a big place where this happened.

The British soldiers, along with many women, children, and people who didn’t fight, stayed in a safe place in Kanpur called the Wheeler Entrenchment. But the Indian soldiers who rebelled, led by a leader named Nana Sahib, surrounded the British soldiers and the people with them.

The British soldiers and the people with them were stuck there for a long time, and they didn’t have enough food or supplies. After a lot of fighting and being stuck, the British soldiers gave up on June 27, 1857.

After the British soldiers surrendered, something very bad happened. The British soldiers, including women and children, were taken to the Massacre Ghat and hurt badly. Many people lost their lives in a very sad way, but we don’t know the exact number. Maybe thousands of people were hurt.

Now there’s a place at the Massacre Ghat that remembers all those who were hurt and lost their lives. It’s like a special place where people go to remember this sad event. People visit this place to learn about what happened a long time ago in India. It’s important to remember even sad things from the past so that we can learn from them and make sure they don’t happen again.
