The Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century CE Hindu Sun temple located about 35 kilometers (22 miles) northeast of the city of Puri in the state of Odisha, India The Konark Sun Temple is dedicated to the Hindu sun god Surya. It is conceived as a giant stone chariot with 12 wheels, making it one of the most famous sun temples in India. The Konark Sun Temple was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The temple’s main deity is the Sun-god Surya, and the entire complex is a classic example of Odisha style of architecture (also known as Kalinga architecture).

Dedicated to the sun god Surya, the temple is designed in the shape of a colossal chariot, with intricately carved stone wheels and majestic spires that once gleamed with gold. Its symbolic representation of the chariot of the sun god, pulled by seven horses, evokes awe and reverence.
