Balarama, as per Srimad Bhagavatha, visited the temple and made offerings after bathing in Padmatheertham. Renowned scholars, like Dr. L.A. Ravi Varma, propose this ancient establishment date. An old legend, recorded in palm leaf manuscripts and “Ananthasayana Mahatmya,” attributes the temple’s consecration to the Tulu Brahmin hermit, Divakara Muni. In the 950th year of Kali Yuga, the idol was reinstalled, and in the 960th year, King Kotha Marthandan constructed the Abhisravana Mandapam.
