A long time ago, there was a special place called St. George’s Hospital in Mumbai. Mumbai used to be called Bombay back then. The people who were in charge of the city decided to build the hospital to help sick people.
First, there was a very important person named Sir George Oxendon. He was the first leader of Mumbai. But when he passed away, another important person named Gerald Aungier became the leader. He wanted to make Mumbai stronger, so he built a big fort called Fort George. Some parts of that fort are still there in the hospital’s walls.
In 1675, the leaders decided to build the hospital. But instead, they built a different place for judging things. Later, they turned the old judging place into a hospital in 1677. People named Khan Bahadur Muncherji Kavasji and Mr. T. D. Little helped build it.
Finally, on December 20, 1892, they made a really good hospital called St. George’s Hospital. It had everything needed to help sick people feel better.
